Hi, I’m Mel.

I’m sharing little ways that I find comfort and balance with a fast-paced, digital career. In a more, more, more society I hope you find retreat and inspiration to strike the balance, too.

Local Gems in St. Louis

It’s perfect timing to share my favorite local spots. If you haven’t been to any of these yet, take a detour on your next adventure out and check one out. Each of these shops truly puts their heart and soul into what they do and I love their special spots. As a small business owner myself I can’t think of anything more anxiety-inducing than having a brick and mortar during an economic downturn, so let’s show our local love!

The White Rabbit: Hands down one of my all-time favorite home goods stores. I have so much furniture from them, and their shop is always changing. The mother-daughter duo that runs it is so sweet and so up on what’s cute for all things home. It’s also a great place find a gift. The furniture is all refurbished and very reasonably priced. When I was living in my first home with my first big job, I bought my dining table from them (with all of my own money!) and I cherish it.

K. Hall: Locally made body care and candles. The scents are fantastic! You’ll also find the cutest clothing here. Another great spot for a gift.

Maypop Coffee and Garden Shop: Adorable nursery plus cafe in one. Major good vibes in this store!

Treats Unleashed: a local chain of pet stores with the best smelling, freshly baked dog treats around. My dog loves visiting and the granola chews are her fave.

Left Bank Books: locally owned book store on my favorite corner in Central West End. My trifecta is to eat Mission Tacos, shop at Left Bank, and then eat Jeni’s ice cream.

Glow Candle: Hands down the most uniquely scented candles and they burn SO well (if you’re a candle girl, ya know.) The store is online but you can find Natalie’s scents around local boutiques and at local pop-up fairs.

Candle Fusion Studio: I know, another candle place - but THIS one lets you make your very own. Grab your pal, your partner, your mom and head there for a unique outing.

Bowood Farms: Wow, what a place. I took one of their shibori dyeing classes a while back. It’s a shop with home and garden items plus a nursery and a cafe. Their neighboring shop called Holliday (haven’t been, but need to!) has more home and gift items, too.
