Hi, I’m Mel.

I’m sharing little ways that I find comfort and balance with a fast-paced, digital career. In a more, more, more society I hope you find retreat and inspiration to strike the balance, too.

The Best Salads in St. Louis

The Best Salads in St. Louis

As a salad skeptic, it can be hard to find a lovable salad. Lucky for you, I’ve tried a ton in St. Louis and have rounded up my absolute faves. All of these are absolutely fabulous and I never pass them up if I get the chance!

  1. Pear and walnut salad from Pastaria. This salad is very spring-y and so tasty. It’s just the right size to start dinner with - it’s made from leafy spring greens and is always topped with crisp pears and just the right amount of light house dressing.

  2. The Woman’s Exchange salad is a local favorite - SO many rave about this. You might know The Woman’s Exchange as a boutique shop, but they also have a tea room. Their light lunch menu and bakery items are a hidden gem, especially the famous salad. It comes fully loaded (if you want, or customize to your liking!) with ham, chicken, bacon, hard boiled egg and more. Their dressing is light and fresh and keeps the salad super crunch with a tossed coating. It’s chopped finely, too, which makes it easy to eat on the go.

3. Peel Pizza’s House Salad. Just an all around great dish! The salad comes with a hard boiled egg and some sliced coppa ham on top, so it’s great to get for your whole meal, or a side to your pizza. If you’re sharing it, there’s plenty for 2-3 people. The dressing is a light house vinaigrette - so good!

4. Brasserie’s Bib Lettuce. This is a light, fresh and citrus-y option as a perfect starter to your meal or happy hour snacking accompaniment.

5. Pi Pizzaria’s Bada Bing Salad. Different, but so good! This concoction mixes together field greens, toasted almonds, gorgonzola and dried bing cherries with raspberry vinaigrette.

6. The absolute best is the Little Gem Salad from Union Loafers. This salad is truly life changing! While you’re there, try their soups and don’t skip the chocolate chip cookies :)
