Hi, I’m Mel.

I’m sharing little ways that I find comfort and balance with a fast-paced, digital career. In a more, more, more society I hope you find retreat and inspiration to strike the balance, too.

Simplifying the Shower

Simplifying the Shower

A couple years back, I noticed my shower - a place of peaceful retreat after a long day - was so cluttered. There were upwards of 15 products smashed onto every shelf and even some items I rarely used. Also, so much plastic! I made a switch, gender neutralized it and voila, it’s been transformed.

One of the main changes I made was switching to bars (for everything!) - bar soap, bar shampoo and conditioner, and even a face wash bar. Fear not, bars actually last a lot longer than gels, tend to have healthier ingredients and also are package free. Another big change I made was that instead of having each product multiplied per person, we share now - with the exception of body soap (we just have different preferences) and of course razors. After some trial and error, I’m sharing my favorite bars in each category and what I use to store them on. Hopefully, this makes your shower a simpler place, too. And hey, we can all rejoice in saving on some plastic.

-Shampoo and conditioner bars
-Favorite Lush body soaps: Sleepy, Sandstone, and Milky Bar
-I also love Native’s body soap in Citrus and Herbal Musk
-Favorite face wash bar: Fresh Pharmacy and Movis
-For razors, we’re a huge fan of Dollar Shave Club

As for storage, we set the bars on these soap pads.
