Hi, I’m Mel.

I’m sharing little ways that I find comfort and balance with a fast-paced, digital career. In a more, more, more society I hope you find retreat and inspiration to strike the balance, too.

My Favorite Fitness Gear

My Favorite Fitness Gear

As a barre instructor of almost 4 years and an on-again off-again runner, I’ve made my way through quite a bit of fitness gear. Here’s a round-up of my all-time faves that I swear by:

  1. Handful adjustable bras. Simply my favorite bra of all time - it flatters without flattening and is uber comfortable. AND, it doubles as a swim top. For more about why I love it, check out this post.

  2. Lululemon faves: In Movement Leggings, Scuba Hoodie, Belt Bag. I know that Lululemon is not the cheapest brand out there, but their products have never failed me and everything I have looks brand spankin’ new, even years later and after hundreds of uses. Simply put, it’s money well spent and quality unmatched by anything else.

  3. Kitsch spiral hair ties. Why did it take me years to learn about these? They don’t leave kinks in your hair and they don’t tear your hair either when removing. Must have!

  4. Bombas ankle socks. I do barre barefoot, but when I run I love wearing these. The bridge of your foot is supported and tighter so they never bunch up, and the ankle is supported by extra fabric. The perfect running sock, especially for sweaty feet.

  5. Bubba double insulated water bottle. I bring this along to most of my barre classes because I love ice cold water and this keeps the ice in tact all day long. I’ve also dropped it and had it roll down my driveway several times without any breakage. It’s super tough!

  6. Motto Journal. This goes to every class with me, too. This little hard cover notebook is the perfect size for jotting down notes or keeping track of progress. It fits in my purse and even has a little bookmark attached so I can find my latest ideas easily.

  7. Native Deodorant. I have tried a few different brands, but Native’s Lavender Rose is my go-to for doing two classes in a row without smelling bad. I swear by it!

  8. Lucabello Fit Stick. For sore, tired muscles. This topical magnesium balm can go right on for instant relief. Plus, it’s way less smelly than icy-hot or biofreeze.

  9. Magnesium supplement. I have zero medical knowledge but I find that when I regularly take magnesium, my muscles recover faster and are less tender and sore than when I don’t. Nothing fancy!

  10. Foam Roller and/or racquet balls. You need to own one of these, especially if you are running! Roll out sore muscles or pin point a knot with a racquet ball (be careful, this is more intense!) to relieve the tightness.

  11. L’Oreal Lash Paradise. This mascara is sweat proof and smudge proof, and it’s super cheap! Win win win!
