Hi, I’m Mel.

I’m sharing little ways that I find comfort and balance with a fast-paced, digital career. In a more, more, more society I hope you find retreat and inspiration to strike the balance, too.

Easiest Eyelashes

Easiest Eyelashes

Finding a mascara I can work out in has been a years-long journey. Here’s the low down on everything I’ve tried and the easiest way I’ve found to sport long lashes that withstand everything we put them through.

The best cheap mascara: Lash Paradise ($10)
I like how his option comes in several colors, because I prefer dark brown mascara over black having blonde hair. Also a plus that I can pick this up at Walgreens, therefore skipping a trip to Ulta, which almost always results in spending much more than I wanted to. That place is a danger zone for overspending and adding excess to my makeup bag.

The best splurge mascara: Smashbox Superfan ($19)

I picked this up during a sale at Ulta and am pleasantly surprised by it. The wand is a good shape and it separates the lashes well.

Here is an exhaustive list of every other brand I’ve tried that has rubbed off, flaked off, had terrible wands or just straight up wasn’t worth the money. As a hack, I always check out Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty sales and look for their mascara day offer and stock up. That sale usually always has a premium brand mascara for $10-$12 and I live a few minutes from one, so it’s worth the stop. I usually buy a couple at a time to last me a few months, but now that I found a couple brands I like, I think I am done with the trial and error.

My been there, tried that list:
Benefit They’re Real
Too Faced Better Than Sex
Urban Decay Troublemaker
Tarte Lights Camera Lashes
Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint
Bare Minerals Lash Domination

Lash Serum

I know, I know - these are bad for your eyes and don’t have the best cred for being safe, but since I work out so much, I refuse to pay for eyelash extensions and I wasn’t a huge fan of how scary, temporary and expensive it was to get a lash lift. If you haven’t had one, it feels like something an alien would do and the whole time you’re laying there you’re secretly hoping your eyes aren’t being superglued shut.

I’ve tried both the Rodan + Fields Lash Serum and Grande Lash MD and found them to be equally comparable to each other. Grande Lash’s wand is WAY better, and it seems like the tube will last longer (TBD on that). Plus, as much as I love supporting a friend’s business, MLM’s aren’t my preference to shop with because I feel they hurt more people than they help - and whenever I make a purchase I feel like I am then asked sell the product. So, we all win with Grande Lash.
