Hi, I’m Mel.

I’m sharing little ways that I find comfort and balance with a fast-paced, digital career. In a more, more, more society I hope you find retreat and inspiration to strike the balance, too.

Escape to Chaumette

Escape to Chaumette

Chaumette is the perfect spot to find a quick refuge from St. Louis. It’s just a 90 minute ride from the city and feels like a world away.

We first visited Chaumette for our anniversary and stayed in a Suite, but on our second visit this past Spring during Covid, we social distanced for a night away in one of their freestanding Villas. Some of them are dog friendly, so we opted to bring Mindy!

The villa was impeccably clean and super comfortable. We love the food from the restaurant onsite, but this trip we decided to grab wine from the tasting room and snack on our own tidbits. Their wine is delicious!

I treated this like an unplugged getaway, so I brought my favorite mandala coloring book and spent some time playing Sudoku in the peace and quiet. Despite the rain, we had an amazing time. The rain actually added to the ambiance and felt really cozy. The villa had a gas fireplace to enjoy, so we sipped wine and listened to the storm as we settled in.

If you’re looking for more activities, there is another winery/brewery nearby (within walking distance) called Charleville and plenty of hiking in the area. There are also a couple of other wineries nearby if you wanted to go full-on wine tasting (we also love Cave Vineyard!).

In the morning before heading home, we took a short walk around the grounds and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. All in all, a perfect little one day getaway!
