Hi, I’m Mel.

I’m sharing little ways that I find comfort and balance with a fast-paced, digital career. In a more, more, more society I hope you find retreat and inspiration to strike the balance, too.

The time we spent in Breckenridge felt like just enough, but there’s plenty to do if you want to stay longer. I didn’t feel the restaurants were overpriced for such a touristy destination, but I always love cooking back at the townhouse when possible to save a little money and to enjoy the space. Visiting Breckenridge in August was delightful, but be sure to make your plans in advance and book your dinner reservations early in the day to avoid a long wait. Parking can be tricky along the main street, but we could always find a spot if we were patient.

The loop trail we decided on was just right for my desired activity level on vacation - it wasn’t too long, or too difficult, and the views were breathtaking. We started in the morning and made it back to town in time for lunch with a big appetite for Empire Burgers - one of my favorite spots that we went to (try the breaded mushrooms!).

Other big highlights were the crepes, (don’t skip those!), all of the dogs we saw (it’s such a dog friendly town), and overall the fresh fresh mountain air. I highly recommend the townhouse we had - we were lucky enough to be invited by friends to stay and we would gladly stay again at full price because the location and the views were amazing.

Disclaimer on the altitude: I definitely felt it. I would highly recommend adjusting for a day in Denver before heading further up, or plan ahead to accommodate for not feeling so great at first. Stay plenty hydrated and keep it in mind if you plan to hike or exercise - it will wear you out quick.
