5 Tips for Social Media Content Planning
Social media content planning can be daunting and confusing. There are a few really easy steps you can take to keep your content flowing month over month.
Determine the topics or categories that your posts fit into. I like to call them “buckets”. There are usually a few overarching subjects that your posts can be divided into such as: About Me, Services Offered, Testimonials, Quotes/Inspiration, or Tips/Tricks.
Hint Hint: check out your website. The topic pages on your website might directly correlate to your social media topics.
Once you have your “buckets” laid out, rank them in order of importance or frequency. Typically my clients have around 3-5 buckets total, sometimes more.
Hint hint: self-promotion or sales, in my opinion, should not be on the top of this list.
Create a standard for how many times each month you want to post, and then decide how many times you’ll post within each bucket. There’s your calendar!
Mix the topics up and try each bucket on different days and at different times. Over time, you’ll start to learn a few things - like which topics are the most engaging, which are the least engaging, and which topics need to be trashed or revamped all together.
Break the standard. Rules were meant to be broken, so get creative and don’t be afraid to try out some new buckets, to increase or decrease your frequencies, or to just go out on a whim and celebrate a National Holiday that is relevant to your business.
Relax. Everything you do is delete-able, change-able and fixable. You can always change your mind later!
